Zachary is located10 miles North of Baton Rouge and 70 miles Northwest of New Orleans, and is in East Baton Rouge Parish and a part of the Baton Rouge metro area. It was incorporated as a city in the year 1889.
Zachary residents are served by the Zachary Community School Board, a Community School System that separated from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System in 2003. The Zachary Community School district has been ranked first in the state for six consecutive years, making it a popular location for people looking to move to the outskirts of Baton Rouge proper. Zachary has a city operated recreation park for youth and other parks operated by BREC (Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission). The city of Zachary also has a state of the art medical hospital, Lane Regional Medical Center, along with well trained and equipped police and fire departments.
